Homemade Glazed Donuts Recipe

Ingredients:

For the donuts:

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)

3/4 cup warm milk (105-115°F)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For the glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, salt, melted butter, and egg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

Add flour: Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Shape the donuts: Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out the donut shapes. Place the donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Fry the donuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F. Carefully place the donuts in the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Glaze the donuts: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off, and place them on a wire rack to set.
